See Differences with Examples of, GOBLETS & CUPS or Timbales along with Hallmarks

I am often asked Questions about terminology concerning French Goblets or Shot Glasses.

Here, we see immediately the difference both in Quality and Substance as well as in Dimensions.

The Larger are a pair of Timbales or Cups, very early Circa 1819 with the rare French Silver Hallmark, the Vieillard. In the middle are 2 different Goblets, much smaller, less substantial and date after 1838. This is the easiest way to distinguish between both definitions. SEE other examples on my Site for both Goblets and Timbales.

The small Goblets are normally used for Alcohol such as Whisky, Cognac, Calvados, Armagnac, Vodka, Schnapps etc.
