These Aiguieres or Claret Jugs are simply a 'great work of Art' and exemplifies the outstanding artistic skills of this Silversmith. The Silversmith, Alphonse AUGER was a XIXth Century Master French Silversmith, well known and sought after by Collectors because unlike many of his contemporaries, he worked on 'special orders' and consequently was not as prolific as his peers.  This Pair was undoubtedly a 'special order' for someone important and someone who could afford them, even at the end of the XIXth Century.
