Letter Opener, 'Ouvre Lettre' or 'Coupe Papier' - Rare French Art Deco 'Bakelite' Brieföffner - Falzmesser Letter Opener c.1930 French Art Deco in near pristine condition. Lovely period Art Deco Bakelite Letter Opener in faux Ivory design including striking Black & Grey Art Deco Mofif for the Handle. Dimensions: 9¼ inches Long x 1¼ inches wide at the Handle. Practical, Decorative as well as very Collectible. CONDITION, WORKMANSHIP & QUALITY are exceptional. * Bakelite or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early Plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde, usually with a wood flour filler. Rare, exceptional hand forged 'Coupe Papier' or, Letter Opener in Art Nouveau Swedish Steel and in excellent condition. Rare Letter Opener in Bronze with the 'Tip' still in original condition. The 2 Scenes depicted show both a local Man and Woman in Period Dress. Signed or Hallmarked and stamped 'Rättvik', see Photos. Damascus steel was a type of steel used for manufacturing sword blades in the Near East made with wootz steel. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. Dimensions: approximately 19,o cm (7.5 inches) Long and quite heavy, weight approximately 70 grams. Practical, Decorative as well as very Collectible as items from this Town and Period, are rare to find. Used also as a 'page turner', or Book Marker when reading a book. Feels wonderful in the hand. Use it as a Decorative Paperweight.
CONDITION, WORKMANSHIP & QUALITY are excellent considering it's age and it's use.

Circa 1935 unusual, rare Letter Opener by CHRISTOFLE in near pristine condition. Designed in the shape of a French Coin with the impage of Napoléon III Emperor on the Face and Napoléon's Wreath and Bumble Bee on the reverse side.
The Design and use of a French Coin to serve as a Handle for the Opener is brilliant.

Brieföffner - Falzmesser A Rare, heavy & incredibly beautiful Handmade Letter Opener or Page Turner by Christofle and Created & Designed by Jean Filhos, French Sculptor. In 1921 Filhos graduated as an Architect and later became a Sulptor. The extraordinary workmanship of the Silversmith demonstrates the Quality this famous Parisian Firm of Silversmiths was capable of producing.
