1767 Dated Wine Taster with FALSE and / or MISLEADING DESCRIPTIONS on eBay with Wine Tasters & Tastevins

Photos describe a FAKE Wine Taster, Spurious Date 1767, Hallmarks of Silversmith and Control Mark make it a '20th Century' Fake, see my Photos

WINE TASTERS or Tastevins, or Wineskin Weinschlauch, or Taste-vins

BEWARE of Sellers calling everything STERLING or SILVER or SOLID Silver without HALLMARKS or, just some obscure unidentifide 'Marks'.

I have never seen, touched a Solid Silver Wine Taster, meaning made of 'Pure Silver'. However, all Sterling or solid .950 or .925 Silver is acceptable.

A Coin inset into a Wine Tqster does NOT Date the Wine Taster, only the Coin.

Silversmith shown is the infamous, Marc Parrod, from Dijon France, and this Taster has his Hallmarks "M flêche P". More importantly there is a French Silver Hallmark, the Minerve making this Taster a much later example but used by Parrod to Fake a Date by engraving a spurious Date to make it appear Older.
Some Sellers misspell his Name as 'Parrot' and more often than not, offer a false date for the piece. e.g. see Berry & Co. on eBay item # 272602454543.

Parrod was a 20th Century Silversmith, so how could he have made the one on sale dated 1890?

Please see this $2,000 Example now on eBay as item # 351808876351. No Hallmarks shown or described, just a Coin that was inserted along with the Seller's Questionable, Misleading or intentionally false Description calling it a '1740 Wine Taster'. I have written the Seller.

See item #311892029972, with apurious Date, 1796 but it is a 20th Century 'Fake' with a Minerve Hallmark by Marc Parrod, Nor 'PARROT', also a 20th Century Silversmith, Sold for more than $240. by 'spidermonkey10' in the UK, who should have known better.

''Ignorance is Bliss' and, it is what the Seller hopes for. You must ask Questions and Buyers are entitled to know all of the Hallmarks which is the DNA of the item.

Ask Questions, 'Silver' almost always has Hallmarks, which are the object's D N A.

Who was it that said sadly, 'A Sucker is born every day?'

Rare Pièce d’Orfèvrerie en argent massif, et à ne pas Manquer.

1749 Rare, Important XVIIth Century Sterling Silver Wine Taster, Tastevin, from Orléans, France

18th Century by Silversmith, Maître Orfèvre, Louis Roux, Orléans, created 40 years before French Revolution, 122 grams

Model, Serpent Handle, Thumb Rest or, Modèle Poignée de Serpent, repos de pouce, La Prise formée par deux Serpents

Finer than English Sterling and finer than .950 French Minerve Silver, this one in .958 Silver.

An exceptional, rare, important Handmade Wine Taster by one of France's finest 18th Century Silversmiths, ROUX who worked for the Duke of Orléans, the King of France who was executed after the 1789 French Revolution. Orléans, which derives its name from the Roman Aurelianum, was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 bc. It became an intellectual capital under Charlemagne, emperor from 800 to 814, and in the 10th and 11th centuries it was the most important city in France after Paris. The Loire River divides Orléans into two unequal parts. In 1429, during the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453), after it had been besieged for seven months by the English, the French national heroine St. Joan of Arc, known as the Maid of Orléans, and her troops delivered it. It is clearly hallmarked 4 times with 18th Century French Sterling .950, finer than English Sterling, Silversmith & Silver Control, Silversmith Hallmarks, Silver from Orléans is more rare than from Paris and finding something created 40 years before the Revoluton is incredible since such a large amount of Silver was destroyed.. Dimensions, more Details can be seen in the Larger photo by clicking the smaller photo to the left. Note the Serpent Handle, quite unusual.

One only has to hold this Tastevin to understand the significance and the differences between 18th Century and XIXth Century Silver!

CONDITION, WORKMANSHIP & QUALITY are Exceptional, considering its Age and its Use. PLEASE be extra careful buying French Silver without appropriate, clear Hallmarks.

Wine Taster- XIXth Century French Antique Tastevin with 1869 rare 2nd Empire Napoléon 5 Francs Coin, both in .950 French Sterling Silver

+ 1er titre 950/1000 + Minerve Head + N°1

Finer than English Sterling with several clear Hallmarks, made by 'Edmond Caron' a Rare Paris Silversmith.

see my Cigar Cuter, by Eloi Pernet with a 5 Francs Coin, Dated 1869

Wonderful example of the Art of the French Silversmith using an original Sterling Silver 5 Francs Coin, signed by 'Barre' and a rare Coin on its own. Monsieur Caron Hallmarked his Work on the outside of the Bowl, the underside of the Finger Ring and the Thumb Rest both with the French Minerve head N°1 Silver Guarantee and his Hallmark as a Registered French Silversmith, which is a Diamond shape Symbol, a Sun on top, a Star below and his initials, E.C. on the sides, pls See Photos.

When you hold and look at this Tastevin, the attention to detail by the Silversmith, Caron, is evident. Inserting a Coin is not a simple task when it is inserted into a Silver Taster and looks like it is part and parcel of the Object and not something 'added'.

The weight, about 85g, the several clear Hallmarks, 2 found on the outside of the Bowl and the others on the Finger Ring and the Thumb Rest show Caron's attention to detail and the Quality of this Wine Taster.

A beautiful and a fine example of the Art of the French Silversmith and, in near pristine condition. Fully Hallmarked several times, 2 on the outside of the Bowl, the Finger Ring and the Thumb Rest and all in the finest .950/1000 19th Century French Silver, finer than English Sterling .925/1,000.

The attention to detail by the Silversmith is evident in the Scales of the Serpents and the Sacred Pearl.

The weight, about 52g, the 3 clear Hallmarks, 2 found on the outsdie of the Bowl and the 3rd in the Sacred Pearl.

The Age and the Silversmith are all consistent with Quality.

A beautiful and a fine example of the Art of the French Silversmith and, in near pristine condition. Fully Hallmarked 3 times, 2 on the outside of the Bowl and once on the Serpent Handle and all in the finest .950/1000 19th Century French Silver, finer than English Sterling .925/1,000.

Wine Taster, Tastevin Silver, Antique - Très bon état en général.

Wine Taster- French Antique Tastevin Handmade in .950 Sterling Silver + Minerve N°1 after 1838.

Finer than English Sterling and clearly Hallmarked, Minerve N°1 Guarantee.

1er titre 950/1000 + Minerve Head + N°1

An elegantly designed, practical, a heavy masculine Tastevin possibly belonging to the son of Alexandre Dumas, the famous French Playwright who, Like his Father, the son also lived in Paris France in the XIXth century and consistent with both the Name on the Tastevin and his life in Paris..

The name of the Owner, "A DUMAS" is very beautifully & discreetly engraved in XIXth Century scroll and was engraved by an artist. This, together with the overall exceptional quality and weight of this Tastevin convinces me that it was a 'special order'.

Many Names one sees engraved on a Silver Taster are quite crudely engraved.

The wine taster itself has been very well cared for and is a very fine example of the Art of the 19th Century French Silversmith.

In near pristine condition, Handmade and fully Hallmarked in the finest .950/1000 19th Century French Silver, finer than English Sterling .925/1000. qualifies it for the addition to any Collection.

Hallmarked with the Minerve Head + N°1 on the Finger Ring and the outside border of the Bowl.

Dimensions: Diameter of the Bowl 7,25 cm x 2.25 cm Deep and Weighing more than 85 grams.

For me it is quite masculine with a massive appearance.

Fermier Généreaux Hallmarks for Paris, 1783, XVIIIth Century + La Prise formée par deux Serpents.

Finer than English Sterling and Minerve Silver, in .958 Silver, and not for the 'faint of Heart'.

A Rare and beautifully executed Tastevin, handmade and fully Hallmarked in the finest .958/1000 18th Century French Silver, finer than both English Sterling .925 and French Minerve .950. Dimensions: Diameter of the Bowl 8,0 cm and Weighing approximately a heavy 91 grams. One finds many 19th Century Examples but, rarely one before the French Revolution as the Silver and Gold was melted down during the Revolution so this Example was guarded preciously by it's owner.

One only has to hold this Tastevin to understand the significance and the differences between 18th Century and XIXth Century Silver!
